Integrated Medicine for Neurologic Disorders addresses herbal and holistic medicine for brain health and neurological disorders. This book can help patients and medical practitioners to integrate Western medicine with herbal and holistic medicine to reduce symptoms and slow disease progression.
The authors are Sidney Kurn, M.D., a neurologist who also practices acupuncture and holistic medicine, and Sheryl Shook, Ph.D., a physiology professor with a Ph.D. in neuroscience. Drs. Kurn and Shook have combined their expertise to work in the community educating about improving health by integrating the benefits of mainstream medicine with the rich and valuable practices from many cultures that rely on plants, nutrition, and lifestyle for healing.
“… a powerful summary of integrative nutritional approaches and underlying biomechansims of disease for the more common neurodegenerative diseases. This book is indispensable as we face the increasing incidence of neurodegenerative diseases in our aging population.”
Eleanor Hynote, MD

“This book is required reading for any practitioner of integrative medicine who treats neurological patients. Dr. Kurn and Shook’s treatment recommendations are well-documented and in keeping with the highest quality standards of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). The chapters are clearly organized, and the treatment summaries at the end of each chapter make it easy to quickly design a program of nutritional therapy and supplements for your patients.”
Brian Bouch, MD
Integrative physician and instructor in Medical Acupuncture, UCLA Medical Acupuncture for Physicians course
Drawing from their extensive experience in the areas of neurology, nutrition, and botanical medicine, Drs Kurn and Shook have produced a book that will benefit anyone interested in applying a clinical approach of nutrition and herbs to the management of the most common neurological disorders. The book is well-organized, easy to follow, well-referenced, and indexed. I am sure it will find its place on many a practitioner\\\'s desk.

Alternative Medicine Review
Integrated Medicine for Neurologic Disorders by Sidney Kurn, M.D. and Sheryl Shook, Ph.D. is a highly informative book for both the professional and layperson. Each chapter provides a chapter summary which makes their recommendations for nutrient and herbal protocols readily available to the layperson without necessitating reading the body of the chapter. For the professional who wants to learn the rationales behind their recommendations for the various nutrients and herbs recommended, the body of each chapter provides a wealth of information that is highly referenced.
I do highly recommend this book to anyone with these neurological conditions. Its protocols offer a sound foundation of nutrition and herbal support for people with the various conditions covered.
